Being a Chinoy does not automatically mean you are business-minded. There are some who’s lifelong dream is to become a successful entrepreneur, while there are others who would rather find a different career path, but for the Dee family, being entrepreneurial seems to run in their blood.

“My dad was an entrepreneur. I am an entrepreneur. My kids are entrepreneurs. Not as expected, but if you grew up with it, you got to have a link with whatever it is,” says Rikki Dee.

When Rikki Dee opened Chin Chin restaurant along Pasay Road, he was unaware that he’d be laying the groundwork for his family-run restaurant empire, Foodee Global Concepts. Fast forward some decades later, and their rich collection of dining outlets includes both successful homegrown concepts and famed international brands: Mesa, Sunnies Cafe, Bench Cafe, Hawker Chan, Kam’s Roast, Llao Llao, as well as Todd English brands Pound and Flatterie, to name a few. Furthermore, though JFC has acquired full ownership of Tim Ho Wan, Foodee Global operates the Michelin-star brand locally.

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – From being adjudged the world’s best vegetable soup in 2020, food and travel website TasteAtlas now rates the Philippines’ sinigang na baboy (pork soup) as the world’s best soup in 2021.

Sinigang topped the soup category of TasteAtlas’ Best Traditional Food in the World Awards 2021 with a 4.63 rating, ahead of Romania’s Ciorbă de fasole cu afumătură, (4.55), Japan’s Shoyu ramen (4.54), Turkey’s Mercimek çorbası (4.53), and Japan’s Tonkotsu ramen (4.50).

Here are the new Quezon City restaurants and cafes that are both aesthetically pleasing and serve satisfyingly good food!

We’ve all done it—arranged the plates and cups on the table and stood on a chair to take i-don’t-know-how-many snaps of it. Or, ask a friend to take a “candid” photo of you on that #aesthetic wall all for the love of Instagram.

Truth is, when it comes to visiting restaurants, good food is just not enough. Sometimes (okay most of the time), the place should also be Instagram-worthy.

Where would you bring our favorite hero for a good meal?

As we commemorate Dr. José Rizal’s martyrdom at Bagumbayan on Dec. 30, 1896, we are left to wonder, “Have we come so far 125 years later?” Not only was the Filipino polymath instrumental in ending the Spanish colonial period, but he has also inspired many, especially the youth, to live more meaningful lives by being devoted to a bigger cause—the country. His brilliance, charm, and passion for travel paved the way for Filipino culture to be recognized all over the world. His literary works and sacrifices awakened Philippine nationalism. [...]

Our Mesa Filipino Moderne Restaurant Experience in SM Pampanga

The restaurant has a wide variety of delicious Filipino cuisine. The interiors looked modern but with Filipino touches still recognizable. It was Sunday, dinner time, so the place was a bit filled with customers having their time-off with family and friends before going back to work the next day.

Foodee Global Concepts’ Eric Dee shares the hard lessons he has learned during the COVID-19 crisis and how his restaurant group has prepared for the reopening of dine-in services.

Over two months under various states of quarantine and the effects brought by the COVID-19 pandemic don’t seem to be going anywhere in the foreseeable future. Today, many of the things we took for granted—grocery shopping, visiting loved ones, dining out—all have to be done with much caution, if at all. The recent transition to a general community quarantine in the Philippines will see citizens itching to go outside, but also businesses itching to reopen once more.

As we adjust to the “new normal,” one of the hardest-hit industries in the Philippines is the restaurant industry. We interviewed Eric Thomas Dee, COO of Manila’s top food and beverage group, Foodee Global Concepts, to share with us his menu for success in the competitive industry.

Foodee Global Concepts holds  the brands MESA Filipino Modern cuisine (which has over 60 stores nationwide), The Food Hall (the first celebrity chef restaurant and food hall concept in the country), Pound (a spinoff from the grill station of Food Hall and is mainly known for its burgers), Flatterie (combining an easy posh atmosphere with a take on flatbreads), Sunnies Café (an integrated lifestyle and café brand), Bench Café (fusing Filipino with Filipino), and Llao Llao (Spain’s No. 1 yogurt brand), to name a few. Eric has recently launched Food District Signatures on 5th at BGC, with our favorite food brands under one roof.

The health crisis has greatly affected businesses and the Foodee Global Concepts COO shares his profound thoughts.

Eric Thomas Dee talks how restaurants need to adjust to the new norm after the quarantine period.

“The restaurant industry will experience a paradigm shift. A shift that will eliminate the weak and the strong will barely get through but as they say, there is light at the end of the tunnel. we are entering (almost now a cliche) a new norm.Restaurants are not just about the food. restaurants are about the experience, the combination of food, service, attention to detail and ambiance.

One of the hardest-hit industries during this crisis is the restaurant business, where dining out that most social and convivial of activities for the food-obsessed Pinoy has now been nullified by social distancing.

What is the “new normal” going to look like food-wise? We interviewed three restaurateurs to find out:
